Photography in a remote environment
While taking part in a recent Nepal expedition with Ocean Vertical, supported by 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking, I found myself documenting the experience as it unfolded.
I wasn’t there as a hired photographer. There was no brief or shot list. But as the days passed, I naturally focused on the same moments I look for when working with teams on retreats and offsites.
I was naturally drawn to not only the stunning landscapes but also to what was happening within the group: the shared challenge of long days on the trail, the conversations during rest stops, the way a group shifts from individuals into a connected team.
These are the moments that define a successful leadership retreat or company offsite.
The images I created were later shared with Ocean Vertical (who offer adventurous corporate retreats closer to home too!) and are now being used across their marketing. Not necessarily because they showcase Nepal as a destination (although take me back – it was wonderful!), but because they capture something more valuable—authentic human connection within a shared experience.
This is where photography becomes more than simple event coverage. It becomes a tool for brand storytelling—showing how people interact, collaborate, and build relationships outside their usual environment.
Whether it’s a multi-day expedition or a UK-based team experience, the goal is the same: to create natural, documentary-style imagery that reflects what it actually feels like to be there.
That’s the focus of my work as a corporate retreat photographer—helping companies capture the real experience of their teams through honest, engaging photography.

Working alongside the team from 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking brought a depth of experience that shaped the entire journey—from route planning to cultural insight. Their approach also reflects a wider commitment to women’s empowerment in Nepal’s trekking industry, which added another layer of meaning to the experience on the ground.
From a photography perspective, this added another layer to the story. It wasn’t just about the participants, but also the people who make these expeditions possible behind the scenes and I’ll be sharing more images of the guides in a later post.
